Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of last week were filled with fresh juices for the health care team at our office. We took 3 days to re-boot and provide our bodies with a gentle detox. We eliminated all food and stuck to a fresh juice diet.

Here are some lessons that we learned…

  1. Preparation is key! Write out your shopping list, schedule time to shop, and be prepared to spend a few hours per day making juices and cleaning up.
  2. Teamwork ensures commitment and increases motivation. Let’s face it, not eating and only drinking juice for 3 days is tough, but knowing you’re not alone makes the fast more manageable. We all had our spouses on board; being united in our homes supported our success.
  3. The first day is the toughest, especially the first evening. Once you get past this point, and you realize that you survived a full day without eating, your focus is more on the end goal than the absent meals.
  4. The emotional desire is greater than the physical need for food. It was very rare for us to feel hunger during this fast, but the desire to eat was strong. We found this a valuable test of discipline.
  5. It can be done. We all knew it was going to be hard, and found it a rewarding experience as a whole.
  6. On a personal note, I felt a sense of mental clarity, found sleep more refreshing, and physically felt lighter on this juice fast.

Have you ever tried juicing? Tell me about your experience!
