New Year’s Basic 3 week Detoxification Program
Many of us have spent the last few weeks overindulging with Christmas cookies, baked goods, chocolate and perhaps alcohol. All of these items increase inflammation within the body, dampen our immune system, and leave us feeling sluggish and a few pounds heavier. Overloading with unhealthy choices can lead to an aggravation of previous symptoms (ie. Headaches, sore muscles, acne, eczema…), which is all the more reason to get back on track. It’s important to support your body’s organs of elimination and reduce toxin exposure. Here are some basic detoxification strategies to help your body’s natural processes.
1) Eliminate sugar. This is a challenge since sugar is packed in many processed foods and many suffer from sugar addiction, but it’s necessary in supporting a healthy body. Give your body a break and eat REAL food… I’m talking food that you need to wash, chop, peel and core. Load up on vegetables, natural sugars from fruit, quality lean protein, quality whole grains such as quinoa, oats, brown rice.
HINT: Increase green leafy vegetables to further support liver detoxification
2) Purify with water. Drink a minimum of 8 cups per day to support detoxification through urine and bowel movements. Water is required to support life, not coffee. So reduce your coffee and load up on some H20!
HINT: Add juice from ½ lemon to your morning water to stimulate your digestive processes and support a gentle liver detox
3) Get moving! Exercise daily for 3 weeks, any way you choose for 20-30 minutes. Sweating and promoting circulation is essential for optimizing detoxification and cleansing the skin. Walking, jogging, weight lifting, snowshoeing, skating, toboganning… embrace all that winter has to offer.
