Cupping is a treatment method of traditional Chinese medicine. It involves the use of plastic cups and a pump, which draws the skin towards the inside of the cup. It opens up the skin pores, helps promote blood flow, alleviate pain and swelling, and balances the flow of qi or in the body.

The cups are typically left in place from 5-10 minutes, or small amounts of oil are applied to the treatment area to allow movement of the cups along the area. It is mainly performed on your back, as this is location of 5 meridians (TCM organ channels and several acupuncture point locations), and often the site of muscular and fascia tension. Cupping can also be done on the stomach, arms and legs.

Cupping is primarily used to treat respiratory conditions such as bronchitis, asthma, and congestion, along with other conditions such as arthritis, pain, gastrointestinal disorders, and muscular tension.

Cupping is now offered at Snow Naturopathic.
